"Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth." (Psalms 124:7-8)

The Other You: How to Find Your “Real” Self

What would you do to discover the other you?

Yes, that’s right—the other you. The you that might have been.

This is one of those places in time—or one of those moments of the mind—that each of us are in desperate need of. To be taken to the “edge of the cliff,” so to speak.

And once taken there, to be given the chance to fly. Or even soar.

To fly or to fall—that will inevitably, unquestionably be your choice—and yours alone. No one makes this choice for you. Not even God Himself. In fact, He’s the One who has made this choice possible.

It seems so amazing—this choice that God has entrusted you to make.

He trusts you, because you are worth it.

Jesus states in Luke chapter 12,

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

But is that the way you would describe yourself? Someone who is highly valued by God?

Think about it. Are you worth very much in your own eyes? Or are you startled by the lack of respect you hold for yourself?

Maybe you are constantly searching for something important—something that should matter in your life—but never quite finding it.

Or maybe you’re troubled with a sense of losing your way. Does it feel sometimes, as if you’re losing yourself?

Listen carefully, friend. Anyone can feel this way. Many, many people all around you (if they would openly admit it) are doubtful about their very existence. Some don’t even know why their heart beats.

They are bewildered as to why they awake to another day. They don’t even know what they are supposed to do with today.

They have few hopes, dreams, or visions for tomorrow. And when tomorrow comes, they won’t have any more of a clue as to who they are—or who they should be—than they did the day before.

But that isn’t you. At least, it doesn’t have to be.

You’re not just anyone. You’re you. There isn’t any other you—the you whom God lovingly made.

Deep within, you wonder, “How can that be?” You look at yourself in the mirror. But you don’t feel lovingly made. You don’t feel lovingly anything.

You feel something totally different. You feel wrong—and wrong for feeling it.

Sometimes it’s confusion. Sometimes it’s frustration. And sometimes, when you’re tired of feeling—the “nothing” takes over.

“Nothing”—that bland feeling of feeling nothing much at all. That hollow emptiness.

That void of something that should be present within you.

You are constantly aware of something just beyond yourself. It is the presence of something—of immense importance, and overwhelming greatness.

At times, it can seem so elusive, like a mirage—when you are finally within reach of where you thought it existed, it vanishes into thin air.

At other times, it seems so close—as if it’s stalking you.

Deep within yourself, there is a space untouched. Untapped.

Within this space, something taps you—and it catches you by surprise. A small voice can be heard—barely perceptible above the noise of this world, and your own thoughts.

“If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him” (Revelation 3:20)

That’s right. It’s real.

You hear it. And when you hear it, you know that Someone knows you deep within. And He cares enough about you to call your name.

When you listen long enough, you become very honest with yourself. And you are compelled to admit what your deepest fears have always told you.

You are lost.

Here’s the deal about that. Being lost. The realization that you can’t go back, and don’t know the way forward. Honestly, this is the most terrifying and exciting place you will ever be.

Because this is the place where you are able to find who you have lost.

Before it is too late.

It is the other you. The you that might have been. The you that still could be, should you choose to find it.

This is where your path begins, if you choose to take it. So pay close attention to what I am about to say.

God Almighty—the precious, personal and magnificent Creator of all things—made you.

“All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3)

He made everything. With the words of His mouth, He spoke the universe into being. Everything exists because He wanted it to exist. And that brings us back to you.

God—in His infinite wisdom—planned you long before the world even began. Everything He plans is for a distinct purpose. That means you have a distinct purpose.

You—in a world of seven billion other souls—have a distinct purpose.

God knows something about you that no one else can know. He knows the real you inside of you. And He has a plan in mind.

God needs you.

Now, what could Almighty God possibly need from you? That’s a very good question. It has a very good answer too, if you hear it with an open heart.

You see, we can’t really understand what God needs from us, unless we understand His love for us. It’s the kind of love that loves completely.

This same God who created all things, also loves all the things He has created. But above all else, He loves you, and me. All of us, and each one of us. Completely.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

He loved us so much, that He made it possible for his own flesh and blood to come and live among mankind—to be hated, and to be killed for all the sins of the world. Our Sins.

The sins that separate every one from the goodness of their precious Creator. That is why each one of us are lost. Lost.

We are lost, unless we might somehow find Him—amidst the clouds in our mind, and the storms of worldly confusion.

Without the goodness of God interacting in our lives, we remain traveling down the wrong road of life—never understanding who we are, or why we are.

How could we possibly understand? No one can know the purpose for their life, unless they know the One who gave them that purpose.

Undeniably, there is a cry within you. A call, deep within, to find the lover of your soul.

His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.

He died that you might live, both now and for the ages to come.

Yes, your need is apparent to Him. You are lost. But He’s so good at finding His lost creation.

Your hunger is evident. Your heart’s cry is to know Him. He has been waiting for this moment.

His perfect plan for you is to submit your greatest possession before Him. Can you do it?

Again, what could God possibly need from you?

He needs something that only you alone possess to give Him.

It is your will.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12)

You must understand—this is your choice, and it’s only yours to make. No other person on Earth can make this choice for you.

And that’s why being you is so important. The you who your God created you to be.

Tell Him now—that you submit your will into His capable hands. Tell Him now—so you can be His. And He can be yours.

This was the foremost desire of His heart, when He spoke your life into being.

He has planned you with great plans—not only for your short lifespan on planet Earth—but for your life with Him, forever.

But you must call out. Cry out to Him. Reach out to Him.

Go ahead and fall—fall into his arms—He will catch you.

Oh how He’ll catch you, and hold you—and He’ll place those wandering feet of yours on the right path. His path of life.

This is your chance to discover what the God of all creation has always known—the other you.

The real you—just waiting to live.

Has this touched your heart in any way? Please share your thoughts below. We would love to hear from you!
